Scuba Diving Zanzibar

Scuba Diving Zanzibar

Op de koraalriffen rond Zanzibar leven meer dan 700 soorten koraalvissen, waaronder de grote tandbaars. Op open zee zwemmen o.a. sardines, gele tonijn en de zwarte marlijn. U kunt ook regelmatig grote scholen dolfijnen tegenkomen.

Zanzibar's noordkust ligt precies op de migratieroute van de mantaroggen, walvissen en de walvishaai, dus met een beetje geluk ontmoet u er één... Kortom, een waar duikersparadijs met een gemiddelde watertemperatuur van 27 graden en met een zicht dat soms de 30 meter overschrijdt. De duikplekken van Zanzibar horen thuis in het rijtje van de beste ter wereld.


Duikopleiding

Uiteraard kunt u op de vele locaties ook een duikopleiding (meestal PADI) volgen. Neemt u voor meer informatie contact met ons op.


Snorkelen

Op vele locaties is het uiteraard ook fantastisch om te snorkelen. Bij de meeste lodges en resorts is snorkelmateriaal, al dan niet tegen een kleine vergoeding te gebruiken.
Vrijwel iedereen die een beetje vertrouwd is in het water kan gaan snorkelen. Tijdens het snorkelen in tropische wateren rond Afrika treedt u binnen in een hele nieuwe wereld. Zwevend over de koraalriffen tussen scholen veelkleurige vissen, wie wil dit nu niet meemaken...?

Combinatiereis

Een van de grootste voordelen van duiken in Tanzania is dat de beste duiklocaties dicht bij de vele bezienswaardigheden en wildreservaten liggen. U kunt dus uw duiksafari combineren met de overige bestemmingen. 

Ook aan de niet-duikers is gedacht. De reizen kunnen zo samengesteld worden dat er voor elke wat wils is; zon, zee, strand, duiken, game drives etc.

Ametatu

12 - 17 metres
A coral outcrop along the fringing reef, gradually sloping to a sandy bottom. Suitable for divers of all levels.  Many hard table, plate and lettuce leaf corals form a base for a variety of soft corals.
A diverse selection of fish and animals aggregate on Ametatu. It really can be called an octopuses garden. Other favourites include Mantis shrimps, the hard hitters of the ocean and the every intriguing sea cucumber. Schools of fish include snapper, barracuda and some big groupers too.

The Big Wall

16 - 35 metres (diving maximum)
Located on Mnemba's east side, signifying the start of the Pemba Channel. Rapid descent down to 30 metres and then vertical wall with many overhangs, drops to well over 60m suitable for experienced divers only. A must for avid divers. Can only be dived when tides are favourable and waters calm.
Many big predators including reef shark. Also many game fish and regular sightings of big rays and tuna. Seasonal sightings of whale sharks.

Chakatuni

12 - 18 metres
A raised area of hard corals in the open sea, great for beginners or experienced divers. As this site is quite exposed it is best dived on a slack tide. Hard plate coral structures. Schools of pennant banner fish parade above the coral, while this haven attracts a proliferation of marine creatures; Turtles, Stingrays, Octopus and Moray Eels all call this coral oasis home.

Coral Garden

Max. 6 metres
Large clumps of coral west of Mnemba Atoll; suitable for novices or shallow 2nd dives. Many different colourful coral formations, some almost reaching the surface. The coral garden is home to octopus, garden eels, a kaleidoscope of different tropical reef fish; cuttlefish, regular sittings of turtles, and even a couple of resident frogfish.

House (West)

5 - 8 metres
On the sheltered west side this gentle slope of coral clusters is an excellent reef to learn on. Many types of coral reach up almost to the surface here, from the sandy bottom. The coral has many hiding places in which to spot the angelfish, butterfly fish, clown anemonies, pipe fish and the amazing variety of creatures that live in this environment.

Hunga Reefs

12 - 18 metres
Four clumps of coral fairly close to each other; good for novice and experienced divers. Can only be dived on specific tides. Big clusters of hard coral with lots of soft coral on the reef and bowl coral all around. An exciting dive with many different fish schooling around the beautiful coral clusters, including barracuda, snappers and surgeon fish, as well as crocodile fish, blue spotted stingrays, scorpion fish and guitar fish in and around the coral.

Kendwa Coral Garden

3 - 8 metres
A shallow patch of mixed corals, sloping down gently. Ideal for first time divers and snorkelers. A wide variety of hard corals, such as brain corals, table coral and plate coral and many soft corals too, like pulsating coral. The shallow water acts like a nursery for thousands of tiny juvenile fish, while as residents count amongst their number lionfish, pipefish cuttlefish and the incredibly well camouflaged seahorse.

Kombe

7 - 35 metres
A steeply sloping wall between 8 and 18m, a short ledge, then the wall drops again. Deep. Novice to advanced. Vibrant soft corals, sponges and anemonies. Fish gather on the reef edge, and the many holes in the wall are home to lobster, mantis shrimp. With the deep water close, there's always the chance of something big. Look out for reef sharks and guitar fish, but also listen out for dolphins.

Kichwani

3 - 30 metres
Nice shallow drop-off, suitable for every level, from snorkelers to experienced divers. Really healthy hard and soft coral. Enormous diversity and abundance of fish. Big schools of big eyed jacks, five-lined snapper and sweetlips. Coral swarming with anthiases, huge Napoleon wrasse patrol the deep. A pod of bottlenose dolphins may even accompany you on your dive! An amazing experience.

Kichafi

8 - 18 metres
A great coral reef, suitable for novice and experienced divers; This is our home reef - being less than 5 minutes from the hotel, and is a good spot for night dives whether you've dived at night before or not. Large healthy formations of plate and lettuce leaf sheet coral. During the day join the large marbled grouper, oriental sweetlips and schools of black and blue lined snappers swimming in and around the coral.

Leon’s Wall

5 - 30 metres (diving maximum)
Wall dive with several caves; suitable for experienced divers only. Variety of coral types. Lion fish, snappers, big bass and leaf fish; occasionally, big game fish and dolphins are sighted; in September, humpback whales are sometimes seen at the surface. The top reef is suitable for snorkelling.

Leven Bank

18 - 35 metres (diving maximum)
An exciting must do spot for experienced divers only. Spectacular dive, often in strong currents in the Pemba Channel, therefore usually great visibility, but only dived on certain tides. Amazing mid-channel pinnacle, topped with coral and sandy patches, the walls drop down to over 160 metres.
The pinnacle attracts some large pelagic fish from the open ocean, such as sharks, manta rays, whale sharks and big game fish. The pinnacle itself is home to things from huge honeycomb moray eels to colourful nudibranches. Dolphins are often seen playing in this area.

Mbwangawa

12 - 18 metres
Coral reef, due east of Nungwi's lighthouse; good for novice to experienced divers. A range of hard and soft coral, including extensive plate coral. The coral provides a beautiful home for blue spotted stingrays, moray eels, turtles and large schools of blue striped and five-lined snapper.

Misoli

12 - 18 metres
A large oval shaped coral bank, rising from the sandy sea floor. Great for all levels of diver. Banks of lobophylia rise up at one end of the reef, while bowl coral proliferates at the other. The sand provides a habitat for guitar sharks, crocodile fish, and sole, while the coral is home for schools of barracuda, snappers and morays.

Mushroom

12 - 18 metres
Three large clusters together form this dive site, a favourite for the inexperienced and for second dives. Table coral, lettuce leaf and plate corals dominate here, with many anemonies and soft corals too. Brightly coloured fish dominate this area, with regal angelfish, both adults and juveniles, a host of butterfly fish, schools of yellow snapper and sweetlips. Different nudibranches complete this kaleidoscope of colour.

Watabomi

12 - 22 metres
Coral reef; suitable for novice and experienced divers. A gentle current and so much to observe can make this an ideal drift dive. A sloping sand seabed has very large patches of coral predominantly plate.
TURTLES ABOUND! The coral provides shelter for many green turtles. Try and beat our record, which so far this year is 12 in one dive. Amazing numbers of red tooth triggers swim above you, schools of black snappers in front, and marbled groupers dart off to the side.
