Painted Dog Conservation

The objective of the Painted Dog Conservation Foundation is to protect the African wild dog. For the time being it is pursued exclusively through the support of the Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) project in Zimbabwe.

This project aims to protect the current population of African wild dogs, ensuring an increase in the number of wild dogs, and increasing the range both in Zimbabwe and in the countries beyond. The foundation strives to achieve its goal through action, education, encouraging research and collaboration with other organisations.

In the Arts & Crafts centre in Dete, Zimbabwe (which was especially created for this) many different products are made by local artists. Anyone can register to get started. The products which the artists make with primarily recycled materials are then bought by the Painted Dog Conservation project.

For the children who come make products after school, it is ensured that the revenues directly benefit the child in the form of school fees, school supplies, food or clothing.

The profit that the project makes with the sale of products will benefit the protection of wild dog, and the local population through various educational projects.

Snare Art

Art snare or snares art, are works of art made of snares removed from the bush of Zimbabwe. These traps, posted by poachers, are removed by special anti-poaching units of Painted Dog Conservation.

Depending on the type of animals hunted, poachers use different wire, from very thin wires for guinea fowl, to thick woven wires for buffalo.

These wires are transformed into beautiful works of art, providing a positive contribution to conservation. In addition, the artwork is made unusable for poaching.

BMS-Travellers support this wonderful initiative!

By purchasing these products, BMS-Travellers, and therefore you as well, support the the economic development of the population and protect the critically endangered African wild dog, both in Zimbabwe and in other countries in Africa.
