Safety on safari

Safety on safari

All national parks and game reserves are subject to certain rules. These rules are there for your safety. Many animals that may come towards you, especially the lion, elephant, buffalo and hippopotamus, are dangerous. Stay in the car and keep a reasonable distance (especially with the elephant) in case you need to take off quickly.

In Africa there are many species of poisonous snakes, although they are rarely seen. If you do encounter one, follow the advice of your guide or try to get away as quickly as possible.
If you go hiking, we recommend as a precaution to wear good shoes, socks and long trousers.  Be always aware of the fact that you CAN encounter these animals.
Another unpleasant aspect from walking are ticks. So again: wear good shoes, socks and long trousers.

Finally, for goodness sake: Do not swim in rivers and lakes where hippos and crocodiles are present, because many waters in Africa have the bilharzia parasite. Therefore, it is not advisable to swim;  limit yourself  to any pools at lodges, hotels and resorts.
