Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve

Between the mighty mountains of the Cederberg and the open plains of the Great Karoo, lies a beautiful sanctuary with a variety of floras and faunas and a unique collection of San rock art. In the spring the reserve is in full bloom and  the colourful flowers in the usually semi-dry area, provide a more than amazingly beautiful spectacle. The rugged nature of Bushmans Kloof consists of vast open plains, deep ravines, spectacular waterfalls and prehistoric rock formations. It was once the hunting grounds of the San (Bushmen),therefore, you will find many petro glyphs there. Bushmans Kloof has been declared a national natural heritage.

A great variety of species in earlier times lived in this area and were placed back, so that the Mountain Zebra, Bontebok, Eland, Gemsbok, Black Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Springbok, Ostrich and Grey Rhebok are now found there. Also leopards, wild cats, foxes, caracal, otters, cliff jumpers, baboons, porcupines and aardvarks are not uncommon. Not to mention the many (rare) plant species that grow in the reserve.
