Elsa’s Kopje
The eight spacious cottages of Elsa's Kopje are built on a hill between rocks and trees and offers a beautiful view over its surrounding.
Elsa’s Kopje is named after the lion cub Elsa, an orphan being taken in by Adamson and later released. What's most remarkable about this place here is that you do not need to share with other tourists. This is so because, Elsa's Kopje is the only permanent accommodation in the entire park.
The rooms are individually styled differently, but all have a large canopy and a large bathroom. The rooms are linked via a walkway to the central part of the lodge, where the bar, lounge, restaurant and the swimming pool are found. The superb meals have a strong northern Italian influence.
Elsa's Private House is separated from the rest of the lodge and with its two en-suite bedrooms, living room and private pool, ideal for families or friends.
Activities
During your stay you can partake in all kinds of safaris and other activities. It is possible to do both day and night safaris in an open Land Rover. During your walk through the bush you can experience the Kenyan wildlife immensely.
Elsa's Kopje organises various day excursions, including a visit to the Tana River where you can picnic in nature. For those who love fishing, you can catch catfish and barbs in the area. For some culture, take part in the excursion to a local Tharaka village and enjoy traditional dance. Elsa's Kopje supports the local farmers just outside the game reserve with the cultivation of various produce, which again, can also be purchased through the lodge. You can visit one of these agriculture projects.
