Amboseli National Park

Amboseli is a land of 'giants', with a view over the wide dry plains to the horizon where the earth becomes one with the sky. Amboseli is known for its large elephant herds, including some bulls with impressive tusks, which travel to a number of large fertile swamp lands.

The most impressive 'giant' is Mount Kilimanjaro. Africa's largest mountain, lies just over the border in Tanzania, but the most impressive views of snow capped peak is visible from Amboseli. The light of the rising sun turns the mountain in a dark shade of purple and the snow in a heavenly pink. The view over the Kilimanjaro which precipitates high above the herds of elephants which cross through the plains of the Amboseli is a timeless African sight.

Many Masai villages are centred around the Amboseli National Park. The park is 400 km² and is in the south bordering also with Tanzania. There live more than just elephants in the park, such as herds of wildebeest, zebras and impala graze on the open plains. There are areas of acacia forests where you can see many birds and several species of small wildlife that you may also encounter. Cheetahs are also observed here often.

The park is situated around a large hill, offering a fantastic view over the surrounding plains, where twisters often blow a rotating column of dust in the air. This open land is an excellent hiking area and many camps and lodges organise walking safaris, or excursions to a local Masai village where one can spend some time...
