Lesotho
Lesotho is a country in Africa which is enclosed entirely by high mountains of South Africa. When it received its independence from the United Kingdom on October 4th 1966, the former Basutoland became the Kingdom of Lesotho.
Lesotho is known as 'kingdom in the sky'. This nickname is given due to the altitude, it is the only country in the world that lies entirely above 1,000 meters. Whether you come by car, on foot or horseback through this country, you can always enjoy spectacular views.
Lesotho is a magical land where music and dance are both deeply rooted in all the rituals and daily life. The country is ruled by King Letsie III. Many people still lead a traditional and simple existence.
The only city (also the capital) of Lesotho is Maseru; the rest of the country consists of small villages. During a visit to the capital, you can, amongst others, visit the national museum, the Royal Palace. A walk through the mountainous Sehlabathebe National Park is also recommended. There are no wild animals, but you can enjoy nature and the views.
A visit to Lesotho allows you to visit an African country that is largely untouched by tourism.
