Mountain Gorilla Trekking

Rwanda is THE destination for a gorilla trek (walk). You can spend one hour with these 'gentle giants' and see a silver back up close...

In total, seven groups of mountain gorillas live in the Parc National des Volcans. Each group can be visited by up to 8 persons per day for the duration of one hour. This is done so their lives are disturbed as little as possible. These walks are relatively heavy, especially if much rain has fallen, so a reasonable level of physical fitness is required.

You walk under the supervision of one or two experienced rangers through a magnificent rainforest full of giant Lobelia and moss-covered Hagenia trees. Along the way, you can see golden monkeys, buffalos, bush duiker and a wide variety of birds. Eventually, when the gorillas are located, you will experience one of the most special wildlife experiences of the world: you spend one hour with the 'Gentle Giant' mountain gorillas and view their daily lives, eating and playing. At the end of your visit you will understand why Dian Fossey lived 18 years between these animals to protect them...

Permits

At present, a permit to visit the gorillas cost US$ 1.500 per person per day. This includes the entrance fees for the park. With BMS-Travellers this is always included in the trip fare.
