Sinya Private Reserve

Sinya, a private concession area of 600 km2 northwest of Kilimanjaro, bordering Kenya and Amboseli National Park, offers wildlife, culture and spectacular landscapes with magnificent views of mount Kilimanjaro, Mout Meru, Ol Doinyo Longido and Ol Doinyo Orok.

Unlike other game parks there are almost no roads here, indicating how unexplored this area is. In Sinya you will find all the animals you would expect in an East African wildlife park, especially many herbivores such as zebra, wildebeest (gnu), Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, Masai giraffe, eland, kudu and oryx. And of course even predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas can be found her. Bird lovers can also enjoy their stay here.

It is also one of the few places where you have very large elephant males of over 50 years old with huge tusks. These elephants migrate with the herds of females and calves from the swamps of Amboseli in Kenya and the acacia forests and open plains of Sinya in search of food and water. These herds have been observed for over 25 years by Cynthia Moss in Amboseli and are regarded as the healthiest populations of elephants in Africa.

Masai

The Masai who live in this area still follow the traditions and rituals from ancient times. You can pay a guided visit to a local village where you can see the daily life and possibly learn a few words of Swahili, enjoy the traditional flag dances and taste a piece of roast goat. Your visit will benefit various projects of the Masai community, such as the purchase and maintenance of water pumps, development of a primary school and promotion of health care.
