Laikipia

This spectacular area, divided into Laikipia National Reserve and the Laikipia Plateau, is considered the gateway to Kenya's rugged north. Laikipia is pure and scarcely populated, although much of Laikipia consists of large private farms.

These farms cover a wide range of landscapes, with high plains and low forested valleys. Most farms share the land with wild animals. In recent years, the wildlife provided a valuable contribution, because many farms have now been turned into guest houses, lodges and private camps. This is a proven success and many farms now rely on a growing interest from the tourist industry.
The result is a beautiful wilderness, where protected wildlife can roam freely and safely. The area around the original Laikipia National Reserve has become a protected area for elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo and an abundance of plain animals, including many endemic northern species.

Laikipia is very active in various conservation projects and some farms are engaged in the breeding of rhinos. Ol Pejeta is a refuge established for chimpanzees rescued from the pet and meat market.

Visiting a farm in this area is an ideal way to explore the Kenyan wilderness, while you enter outside the well-beaten roads in the National Parks. The real attraction of Laikipia is the wonderful feeling of freedom. Not only the freedom of wide open spaces, but freedom of choice. Staying at a farm offers a wide range of activities and leisure facilities. Here on a safari you tend to have more intimacy and adventure.
