Meru National Park
Meru is a huge park with dry, open plains covered with palm trees, baobabs and other vegetation on the banks of the 13 rivers that flow through the park.
Here is a greater variation in species than any other park or reserve in Kenya, including rare species only found in northern Kenya. The Beisa oryx, gerenuk, elephant, Grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, lesser kudu, Grant's gazelle, leopard, lion, cheetah, rhino and the rare Greater Kudu are regularly spotted. Meru is also known for the many bird species. The landscape has a volcanic layer, making the road hard. Meru is outside the usual tourist routes, so it is not so busy.
Breathtaking views of the vast grassy plains and wetlands, palm trees and baobab trees, rivers and many game, that's Meru National Park. In this beautiful setting you have a good chance to see the 'Big Five' : a term from the past that refers to the five large mammals that were most popular for hunting, which were the strongest and most dangerous. These animals include the elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and Cape buffalo.
