Malilangwe Private Wildlife Reserve

Malilangwe ("the call of the leopard"), located in south eastern Zimbabwe, is a 100,000 hectare protected area where there is abundant wildlife, including the Big 5, leopard, lion, elephant, rhino and buffalo.

The area contains diverse habitats, from rocky areas of 'low field' with boabab trees, the Malilangwe Mountains and the beautiful lake with a dam that supplies water to surrounding villages. Due to the many different habitats, the number of species of animals seen here is astounding. By protecting this area a number of animals threatened with extinction got an opportunity here to settle and reproduce. A prime example was the black rhino, followed by the white rhino, roan antelope and Lichtenstein's hartebeest.

Besides the Big Five you can also search for the Little Six six in Malilangwe: beautiful small species of antelope: Klipspringer, Sharpe's grysbok, gray duiker, capricorn, the rare Livingstone's suni and oribi, which thrive again after the drought of 1992.
You can consider yourself lucky if you can spot shy animals such as aardvark, wild dogs and the caracal (lynx) here ... but there's always a chance!

The bird life is abundant in Malilangwe: there are over 400 different species counted, including 14 species of eagles, 11 species of hawks and 9 different species of owls. The area is also a wintering place for many different birds from around the world. Therefore there are always different birds to see in different seasons.
