Maputo

Maputo, a former Portuguese colonial city, is an attractive and relatively quiet city by African standards. But it is exciting and will surely be a welcome change for those seeking something new.

Like in many other African cities, you do not go for the brilliant architecture or the great museums, but there are definitely some nice things to see and do. Highlights include the Mercado Municipal, a colourful and fragrant market, with its wonderful food and souvenirs such as woodcarvings.
The gallery of Nucleo de Arte is famous for its art pieces made of weapons which were used during the Civil War.
