Matobo National Park & Matopos Hills
The Matobo National Park & Matopos Hills (430 km2) is a mysterious landscape that consists of kopjes and huge boulders, located 40 km from Bulawayo.
The park is especially known for its rhino population that is strictly protected against poachers. Other commonly seen animals are the zebra, Warthog, various antelope species and the rare black eagle. The rocky landscape of the park make it an ideal hunting ground for leopards. The rocks also provide excellent coverage, so that you get to see these timid animals, which are rarely seen.
In the park you can also see a great number of prehistoric rock paintings of the San (Bushmen), and the grave of Cecil John Rhodes, the founder of the former Rhodesia.
