Namib Rand Nature Reserve
Namib Rand Nature Reserve is an example of a highly successful private initiative to protect nature. Businessman Erich Bruckner fell for the beauty of the area and gathered a number of investors to preserve the landscape and wildlife for future generations.
It is one of the largest private reserves in Africa and certainly one of the most beautiful. While the Namib-Naukluft National Park is inaccessible because the high sand dunes dominate the landscape, it is possible here, because of the alternation of flat areas and sand dunes, to cover a large area.
In the Namib Rand Nature Reserve lie the accommodations of Wolwedans. If you drive into the area, you know immediately what inspired former banker Erich Bruckner to build something special here. Wolwedans has a very wide field and very experienced guides. They can tell you about plants adapted to drought, the behaviour of antelope like springbok and gemsbok and about birds that only live here.
