Praslin Island

Praslin is the second largest island (38 km ²) of the Seychelles. There are about 5000 inhabitants living mainly of agriculture, fishing and tourism.

Praslin can claim a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list and has all the ingredients for the ultimate bounty feeling. Picault Lazare, the discoverer of the Seychelles, baptized Praslin in 1744 into the "island of palms. Praslin is within a 15 minutes flight from Mahé and is even less populated than the main island. For hikers, Praslin is a good destination, there are several footpaths, from light to heavy, and various nature walks that take you past indigenous plants and animal species.

The island has many beautiful beaches, Cote d'Or on the north coast and Grand Anse on the south coast, the largest. Special mention should be given to the broad and idyllic Anse Lazio in the northwest, as it has been voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You can safely swim and snorkel among the living coral and the estimated 900 species of fish.

Attractions

The Praslin National Park is the second largest national park in the Seychelles after the Morne Seychellois National Park. It covers an area of 324 hectares and is located on the Seychelles island of Praslin. The highest point is 367 m above sea level, but it also has the deep Vallee de Mai.

Off the coast of Praslin there are numerous small islands that can be visited. Cousin Island has been a nature reserve since 1968 and is a paradise for bird lovers. A visit to Curieuse is highly recommended and is part of a marine reserve. Here lives a colony of over 250 giant tortoises that were reintroduced from Aldabra Atoll. On this island are several hiking trails. St. Pierre Island is ideal for snorkelling.
