Ajman
Trips to Ajman offer a whopping 20 miles of talcum powder sand, a family-friendly shopping center and a grand 18th-century fortress.
Dubai's neighbor Ajman is the smallest of all emirate states. Thanks to its size, there is a more intimate atmosphere than in the larger cities. Most people gather here to relax on the white sand beach, which stretches for 50 kilometers along the coast of the Persian Gulf.
Ajman is built around an 18th century fortress. With large, circular watchtowers flanking the entrance, this gigantic terracotta castle looks truly amazing. Inside, it is full of historical artifacts, from photographs to weapons and tools.
The City Center shopping center is also popular. It is full of shops and fast food outlets as well as a cinema showing movies in English.
Dubai city center is a 40-minute drive away. You can make a day of it: stroll along the boulevard full of restaurants, shops and street performers. Dive into the Wild Wadi Waterpark, hit the slopes at Ski Dubai or roll out a towel on one of the sandy beaches.
Or see the city from above in a helicopter or go for afternoon tea on top of the world's tallest building.
