The destinations offered by us are ideal for a self-drive adventure. There are multiple vehicles to choose from. This choice is based on the area you intend to visit and the time of year.

BMS-Travellers offers different types of rental cars for the adventurous self-drive traveller. However, it is almost impossible to name all the different types, so we made a list of the most important ones.

Rental cars are ideal for journeys with overnight stays in lodges, hotels, guesthouses or resorts. These cars are divided in categories depending on brand, size, comfort and engine.

Wouldn’t it be lovely to cross the vineyards of South Africa in a convertible?

Some areas are difficult to drive through depending on the season, In which case advise to choose a four-wheel drive (also referred to as 4x4 or 4WD).

This category also contains four-wheel drives but these cars are made for camping and come with complete camping equipment such as a rooftop tent.

For the most common routes through Iceland, a 'regular' car with all wheel drive or four wheel drive is more than sufficient, but for the adventure routes you need a so-called 'Super Jeep'.

In case of a self-drive expedition a motorhome or campervan is also highly praised, because  you have everything you need in your own home on wheels. Keep in mind that a camper is not recommended for all routes or countries.
