Chobe National Park

Chobe National Park, which is named after the Chobe River, defines the northern border and is home to a great number of large mammals and over 450 bird species. Chobe is an exquisite area for a perfect safari in Botswana...Africa at its best!

Chobe is renowned for the highest concentration of elephants with massive herds that both come together in the dry and wet season. The Savute area with its large population of predators and the annual zebra migration, is the scene of many famous nature documentaries and one of the best safari destinations in Southern Africa.

Chobe has four main areas: the Chobe River, the central plains around Nogatsaa, the Linyanti wetland and the famous Savute region with the Mababe Depression.

Chobe River

The portion of the river stretches out from Ngoma in the west, including Serondela to Kasane, is surrounded by a dense woodland with just a few flooded banks here and there. The northern part is considered as one of Southern Africa's best areas for short safaris, given the many elephants and buffaloes in the dry season and countless birds throughout the year. The Kasane/Chobe area is unfortunately overrun by visitors during regional school holidays.

Nogatsaa and Tchinga

This pan with grass and woodland is approximately 3 hours drive south of Serondela and is hardly known. The area knows how to conserve water during the dry season, and therefore, attracting an abundance of wildlife in between August and October. This area is especially good for moose spotting.

Linyanti

The northwest corner of Chobe borders the Linyanti River which yields a very short stretch of riverfront. This is a fraction of almost 900 km² remote Linyanti swamp - an area that has expanded through the Selinda Reserve in the west and Namibia's remote Mamili National Park to the northern banks of the Kwando River. The location and the relative inaccessibility of the area, makes this one of our most popular safari destinations.

Savute

The famous west corner of Chobe is one of the most famous wildlife areas of Botswana. Savute (or Savuti) has almost 5,000 km² and includes the so-called Savute swamp, the channel, the Mababe Depression and the Magwikhwe Sand Ridge - each area is marked by the tectonic instability of the region. The lions, hyenas and zebra migration are synonymous on Savute but the area also has a wide variety of other predators and wildlife species.  The pans and waterholes are visited by a number of elephant bulls in the dry season.
