Lake Kivu
Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes. It lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. It empties into the Ruzizi River, which flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika.
The lake bed sits upon a rift valleythat is slowly being pulled apart, causing volcanic activity in the area, and making it particularly deep: its maximum depth of 480 m (1,575 ft) is ranked eighteenth in the world.
Most properties are located on the shores of the lake in the towns of Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu, surrounded by rain forest and plantations.
Lake Kivu is a great place for bird watchers. You will find here various species, including pelicans, kingfishers and the crane, the symbol of Rwanda. Also, there is no lack of fish. On the lake there are many fishermen, so you can enjoy throughout the delicious local seafood.
Accommodations on the shores of the lake offer various activities, including boat trips, canoeing and catamaran sailing.
