Port Louis

Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius. This city is named in honor of Louis XV. It is a nice city with a small harbor, one of the busiest in the Indian Ocean.

There is much to see: the Chinese pagoda across from the racetrack, the Jummah Mosque, the Royal Road, the typical English cathedral of St. James, the Indo-Temple... But Port Louis is especially known for its famous covered market, a unique spectacle that is somewhere between an Arab market and the Parisian halls. Besides clothes (colourful sarongs) and souvenirs you can also find fruits and vegetables for sale. And do not forget the spice-man: who heals all diseases!
