Around the dam, there are large rust-coloured rocks in a landscape of capped mountains. It is an area teeming with various species of birds, exudes a calming atmosphere and is very popular in attracting enthusiasts of water sports, and anglers. Nearby are various breeding programmes for springbok, gemsbok and ostriches.
