Swakopmund

If you have seen nothing by hundreds of kilometres of sand plains and rocky hills and then arrive in Swakopmund, you will be almost blinded by the colourful historical buildings. Here, everything is available abundantly again.

In the warmer months of December and January the people of Namibia come to this location because of the cool sea breeze that acts as a natural fan. The rest of the year it is a quiet and pleasant coastal town.

Swakopmund is situated at the mouth of the River Swakop and was founded in 1892. The place has a distinctly German character, thanks to the German settlers before the Second World War. Many people still speak German and the street names are in German. Today it is a modern city where many old buildings from colonial times can be found, such as the restored pier, the lighthouse station, barracks and the German Hansa Brewery. The centre has wide boulevards lined with palm trees, a real promenade with fashion shops and souvenir shops and large parks for the people.

Swakopmund is an ideal place to be active. There are many excursions available in the area, including a visit to the Moon Valley, a balloon safari, deep sea fishing, kayaking, horseback riding, scenic flight over the Forbidden Coast, seals and dolphin tour or a four-hour cruise through the Bay of Whales.
Just outside of Swakopmund sand dunes can also be found which are great for tours with quad bikes and sand boards where you slide a surfboard from the dunes ...

Township Tour

Another attraction is a cultural 'Township Tour' where you explore the streets of the neighbourhood of Mondesa and get the chance to talk with local people and get an impression of daily life in a typical village in Namibia. During this tour you also get the opportunity to taste traditional drinks and dishes.
