Kidepo Valley National Park

In the northernmost point of Uganda on the border with Sudan and Kenya lies Kidepo Valley National Park with an area of 1344 km2.

The park is known for its meadow horizons, expansive savannah and breathtaking views. It is a wild area with more than 85 species of wild animals, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffalo, divers, heart animals, lions, cheetas, leopards, etc. There are six different primates and more than 460 bird species, including the ostrich and kori bustard.

The highest point in the park is the 2750 meter high Mount Morungole. Mount Lutoke is slightly higher but is just on Sudanese territory. The Kidepo river is a sandy river that flows only a few days a year. The Kanangorak hot springs are located on the other side of the Kidepo river. This is also a good place to look for the ostriches. And with a bit of luck you will find the (rare in Uganda) cheetah...

The Karamajong, a nomadic tribe with many similarities to the Masai in Kenya and Tanzania, live in the vicinity of the park. This strain of proud herdsmen refuse to go along with the most innovative external influences. Their love for cattle is similar to the Masai. The way of life of these warriors is unique. They believe that cattle is a God-given right, even cattle from others. You will see how they live, eat, dance, enjoy life and what their cattle mean to them.
