Free State

The Free State lies in the heart of South Africa, and the hearts of the visitors will start beating faster once they see the stunning scenery and the friendliness of the people.

Hospitality is highly valued in this province, and a holiday on a farm in the Free State offers you a unique opportunity to get to know the local custom. There are also attractive resorts on the banks of the Orange and Vaal River.  Here, you can see vast fields of sunflowers and corn, as far as the eye can see. There are also amazing San-rock paintings here to see on farms in the province, especially around the area of Fouriesburg.

The Free State is an ideal place for those who enjoy outdoor adventures.  Trails meander down through dense wooded valleys and narrow ravines by centuries of wind, water and fire. Numerous mountain streams offer excellent opportunities to fish for trout, while the Vaal Dam and the Sterkfontein Dam are ideal places for water sports.
There are also great opportunities for horseback riding, wildlife viewing and bird watching. The Free State has numerous wildlife and nature parks for those who want to escape the pressure of modern life.

The Golden Gate Highlands National Park and the neighbouring QwaQwa National Park are renowned for its impressive landscapes, with huge wind shaped sandstone rock formations, inhabited by animals such as, eland, zebra, wildebeest, springbok and birds of prey. The Basotho Cultural Village is situated in the QwaQwa National Park.
A number of antelopes and other wildlife animals can also be found in the Willem Pretorius Wildlife Reserve, where also plenty of water sports can be enjoyed, such as water skiing, windsurfing and paragliding.
